I really do wish I could have been there...I really wish I could have been one of the blessed shepherds tending the sheep on that Holy Night. Think about it, you're lying on a hillside on a chilly night watching and being wary of anything that might harm your flock. Suddenly...WOW!! There's a brilliant light and an angel tells you to NOT be terrified??! NOT be terrified? You're about to jump out of your skin! "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior which is Christ the Lord. And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a manager"!....talk about knocking you back on your sandals! Then the angel was joined by a host of other angels praising God and saying "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will to men"...and suddenly they were gone...vanished into the dark of night! WOW!! again...you are shaking from fear and the uncertainty of what you have just seen and heard...you can't even speak to your fellow shepherds...what just happened? Finally, you and the others agree they should go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass which the Lord has told us about. So...on they trudged to Bethlehem, still awestruck about what had happened and what they would find in the little town. Closer and closer they approached the rickety old stable with only a very dim light coming from inside. The shepherds were sweating and nervous and peeked around the corner of the open door to see a man kneeling beside a woman holding a newborn, in swaddling cloths...they had found Him just as the angel had said. From fear and trepidation to exuberance and joy, the Shepherds had found the baby Jesus...the Messiah...the Lord!!......I really do wish I could have been there.
