Emergency Rooms...aren't. In the past few weeks Deanne and I have had to go to the ER, me with a bad head injury (poked a piece of plywood through my forehead!) and Deanne dealing with dehydration. In Deanne's case, we walked into a room with about 25-30 people ahead of us and the prospects of getting in, getting taken care of and getting out in less than 6 months were dim! We took a couple of chairs in the back corner and I started to "evaluate" the crowd. You can tell who is sick, you can tell who is hurt, you can identify the "moaners and groaners" for sympathy, AND, you can tell who is using the system! The people that really need help NOW are the least to broadcast their aches and pains! One wussified pansy sat in a wheelchair and complained and whined and shrieked of severe pain in his...lil' pinky finger! One young woman demanded treatment now...NOW... and before returning to her seat, stepped outside to smoke a cigarette!...really? I watched, I studied and all of the people when they left NOT ONE acted like anything had happened to them...they were fine! My wife was NOT and had to be admitted to the hospital....the severe dehydration had shut down her kidneys! She NEVER whimpered once. We waited over 2 hours to have a doctor's help and Deanne needed it. Conversely, we had to wait and wait for "Mr. Pinky Finger" and others like him to take up space with their "moaning". ER's should be for fast medical attention for those needing help in critical situations – not for some getting a paper cut!
