The "old cowboy" was sitting outside the bunkhouse with his rickety chair tipped back against the wall. One of the new, much younger hands was walkin' up the path to wash for supper. The young hand ask the old cowboy what he was doing and he replied "just thinkin' about the toughest man I know!" The young hand stopped and asked "Well who is it?...Nate, Jess or maybe Bill??" "Nope" said the old cowboy, "Jesus". "Who's Jesus?", the young hand asked. "Is he workin' for the Double Bar 4?". "Nope" said the old cowboy, "a couple thousand years ago he died for me at, right 'bout now...3 in the afternoon on a rock patch hill called Golgotha. They pounded iron spikes into his feet an' hands into a wooden cross and then left him hang there till he died". The young cowboy's face looked ashen and scared. "Why, why, did they do that to him?". The old cowboy rolled a blade of grass between his fingers and said "Cause he was the Son of God and they hated him. An' after all the beating, whipping, being spit on and then crucified, at the end...Jesus even asked God to forgive his enemies because they did not know what they were doing.....toughest man I ever knew". The young hand looked long and hard at the old cowboy and said very softy "Well, if he was here two thousand years ago...how'd you get to know him?" The old cowboy reached under his chair and grabbed a beat up, dogeared book...the Bible...an' said "Here, you get to know him too"! On Easter Sunday morning, while the other hands slept in, two cowboys, one old, one young were seen ridin' their horses to the church in town, to celebrate the resurrection of the toughest man...they ever knew!
