My ole' team ropin' buddy Dave, when confronted with something "shocking" always yells "Good Grief"!!...that's almost what I said yesterday. It was a beautiful day. Sunny, blue sky and 60 degrees...perfect day to work out my horse "Stinger" and get ready for ropin' season. Now I should mention dear reader, with this cold and snowy winter, Stinger's needs of perpetual exercise have not been addressed. During the grooming and saddling, I did detect some animosity and contempt in his eyes, but that's just "Stinger". It had to be St. Peter whispering in my ear, but suddenly I had the great idea to longe-line my equine compadre "just to get the kinks out". Goober took him into the arena...and what happened next was worthy of Dave's "Good Grief"! Ole' Stinger broke in two and pawed at the sky and kicked at the sun, all the while going around in a circle. Deanne's face resembled a look from Freddy Krueger's attack on Elm Street and I was frozen at the gate. 1 – 2 and 3 times around, buckin' like he was at the NFR...and then he stopped...at which Deanne said in a very low and murderous tone "Okay, now you get on him". In all things perilous, one must consider the "pucker factor" a physical phenomenon that occurs when great fear is impending. As I put my boot in the stirrup, I had flashbacks of my youth, my marriage, whether the will had been updated and what funeral home I was going to! Finally, slowly, both cheeks of my corpulent little fanny were planted squarely in the saddle and I thought "OK God, catch me!" But...nothing happened...Stinger just exhaled and slowly walked into the arena...Good Grief!

God Bless
