I wish I could spend another day or so with my Grandma Richter...really good memories. During the summer months in hot humid Wisconsin, I’d always look forward to spending a weekend with her and Grandpa Richter. It became a tradition that at 9:00 when Grandpa would come home from his market, Grandma would fix us a big t-bone steak smothered in mushrooms with Kraft dinner macaroni, (to this day I love Kraft dinner!) Another treat was that Grandma’s house was right across the street from the City Park, and every other Friday night there would be a huge band concert and ice cream social! I’d stay on the porch and she’d go get us a big slice of peach pie covered with delicious ice cream!!...I wish I could do that again.
I wish I could spend another day or so with my Mom...she’d be really surprised to know that even though I said I hated it, I really enjoyed the time we spent on the summer back porch “tippin and buttin” green beans. She loved to garden and there were there a lot of em’!....I wish I could do that again.
I wish I could spend another day or so with my father-in-law Dean. When Deanne and I were married, we didn’t like each other at all, but then, circumstances changed and we became the best of friends. I was at a rodeo in California when he died and after the last performance, I drove 17 hours straight through to the church to give the Eulogy...hardest, toughest thing I ever did! We’d laugh and joke and go fishin’ and watch Monday night football together...I wish I could do that again.
I wish I could spend another day with my dear friend Larry...we rodeod together, roped together and honestly “tipped a few” together. We roped together for over 30 years and won some rodeos along the way. He always had a booming laugh and a huge smile...he was a hand, he was a cowboy! I wish WE could do that again. This is Memorial Day Weekend, take a moment, sit back, close your eyes and...remember! We’ve all had good times with wonderful people...cherish the memories.
