Remember the "flat top" haircut? Yup..sure do. My folks were convinced that I should have short hair when I was a kid, and I hated it! Every three weeks I had to go with my Dad to Chick Guilkey's Barbershop and get a "scalping". Dad sat right there, in case I talked "Ole Chick" into being a little lenient on the length, and after a few minutes and .50 cents, I was done. "Flat top" haircuts have a tendency to "droop" and then my folks decided I should apply the "pink butch wax" to make my hair stand at "attention"! I hated that greasy, oozy, slime on my head! Wisconsin summers are very hot and humid, and with that "pink wax" on my head, I felt like a melting candle! There are no words (nice ones anyway) that I can use to describe that oily, disgusting residue on my head...it was child abuse!...But now...after not having a haircut for the past 5 months...I almost dream fondly of the "flat top days". My hair has never been this long, with sideburns that resemble miniature shrubbery on our lawn, and a curling effect in the back, a mullet, that somewhat resembles the south end of a jackass headed north! I can't keep my hat on, and when I take my hat off, I look like the after effect of being electrocuted! Deanne is very tentative to have me go with her to the store for fear that she'll get a ticket for having a dog without a leash! I'm sooo looking forward to the hum of the clippers and the click of the scissors, I can't wait to put a hat on and not have to scrunch it down over my locks! Please, please barbers, open up and save me from the torment of continual combing...why I'd even put on...butch wax!
