Barney tried...but he couldn't go back to Mayberry again...Thelma Lou was married and "Ol' Barn" just didn't fit in. People change, Barney did too, and his high school reunion was NOT the grand time he thought it would be. Has this happened to you? Maybe you were like me. I was not a "friendly, outgoing, smile, shake hands, social butterfly" in high school. Quite the opposite. I was shy, quiet and (unfortunately) had an attitude of "I hate being here and don't and won't study"! Really good personality for future success??! I didn't have many friends and didn't care and my grades reflected my demeanor ...ZERO. After high school, I "tried" college at the University of Wisconsin and then at Whitewater State University...aaah... not so good. I came home and went to work at a magazine print shop. Again, my ZERO attitude had led me to a "great" career job of burning plates for printing machines....oh, what a grand future! But then, something very strange happened through a series of very odd events (God's hand at work!). I was "introduced" to a tape recorder and a week later introduced to a man that said "with your voice, you should consider radio"...yeah...right. Weeks passed and then, I still can't explain it, I called the Admissions Office of a highly respected communications school in Minneapolis, Minnesota! They wanted to "hear" me on tape (funny how that recorder had entered my life!) and then they would make a decision of acceptance...right here Dear Reader, God spurred my life into a full gallop! From Minneapolis to Idaho, from Idaho to the world, my career shot skyward. God has given me the opportunity to see the world, dine with princes, queens and billionaires and use my voice in radio, television and movies and do all of this with my best friend at my side...my wife Deanne. WOW!..What a ride for a "zero personality kid" with no goals for the future!! God works in mysterious ways for all of us...praise God I listened to his prodding and pushing! Yes, Sir...NONE of us can go "back to Mayberry" and really..do you want to??
