Baseball great Satchel Paige said - "Don't look back, cause you'll see somebody gaining on ya!" Since childhood I've been told to always "look ahead, plan for the future, yesterday's history, don't live life looking in the rear view mirror"...all true but, pull back on the reins for a moment. All of us have a "past", good or bad, like it or not it's ours, we own it and it can't be changed. I've made a "dumptruck" load of poor (dumb!) choices and tons of mistakes in my life, and yes, for those I'm remorseful, for the people I've hurt I'm sorry, and God knows I've asked forgiveness. However, the "past" is NOT something to avoid or block out, thousands of experiences and people should be remembered for future problems and sour relationships. I like to remember my Dad and I, saddling up horses and just talkin' as we brushed the horses down and tightened cinches. That was about the only time we really talked or got along and those are good memories to visit. I remember a grade school friend that was dying of cancer and the before he passed, his mom called my mom and asked if I could please come for a visit. Duane loved to play checkers, but midway through the game he said he was too tired and wanted to sleep. He told me what a great friend I was as I walked out and...he died the next morning. I think about my mother's dedication to my sister and me, after we came down with polio. She gave up everything, everything to be there and care for us 24-7 and was always so cheerful and optimistic in a bad situation. I remember one of the best friends I ever will have, Joe P. from Staten Island, New York. Joe was my roommate in college and he is the most kind and considerate and humble person I've ever known. We haven't seen each other for almost 50 years but when we talk on the phone, we both know how valuable friendship is. I fondly remember the letter from the National Finals Rodeo Board notifying me that I had been selected to announce the prestigious Finals...I did handsprings and cart wheels and that "ain't" easy on crutches! And...with a tear in my eye, I remember all the great events with my daughter and son, tremendous student athletes and all of their accomplishments. I thank God daily for those memories and thousands MORE,...but most of all, I'm so blessed to have shared them with my wife, Deanne. To be sure, there are thousands of stories in my life, but God willing, there will be a thousand more as we step forward into 2020. NEVER forget the past, take some time to enjoy today, but, put your spurs on and gallop into the future...it's gonna' be a heckuva' ride!!!

Happy New Year!!!!
