Deanne and I get back so much more!...Every month for over the past twenty years, "Zeb's Lunch Bunch" gathers at a local restaurant. The original thought was to get some of my listeners together, have lunch, draw some door prizes and... "adios"! When it first started we met at the McDonald's in Burley and had about 10-12 people attend. Then, every month it grew and grew. We had to change locations eventually to the old "JB's" in Burley and our numbers were consistently at about 40 people. After the closing of "JB's", we moved to the new Denny's Restaurant and our numbers shot up to an average of 50 folks, and on special occasions, Christmas, Valentines, Memorial Day...we've had over a 100!! There's a wide range of personalities and backgrounds, from farmers to truck drivers, business owners to replica stagecoach builders! (Honest!) Every "Lunch Bunch" starts off with a prayer, the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance...that will never change! In all the twenty years, I've only had one person "get in my face" because he didn't like sitting close by and being "forced" to hear our prayin' and patriotism! For once, I bit my tongue and slowly said "I'll buy your lunch and pray for you" and he looked like his face should have been on a milk carton, he didn't know whether to "giddy-up or whoa!" Yeah...putting on the "Lunch Bunch" costs me a little time and money, BUT, the love and caring and friendships that have grown from this event are...PRICELESS! Just recently we had the "Denny's Old Fashioned Christmas Party" with Christmas carols sung by a wonderful singer as she moved about the restaurant. Santa Claus was there, greeting every patron with a ho-ho-ho and a candy cane. I broadcast my talk show from a booth and we gave away prizes and gifts galore and so many loving people put money in the "Loot in the Boot" fund for needy families. Literally, hundreds of folks showed up and it really was Christmas! From the "Merry Christmas – Happy New Year" wishes to the cards and wonderful gifts and yes, to the teary-eyed "We love you's", I have been blessed! Deanne and I love you all and wish YOU a Merry Christmas and a God Blessed New Year!
