"Are they still spendable??"........a few days ago I forgot to clean out my shirt pockets and one alfalfa horse treat, a 39 cent Bic pen, a phone number to a horse trainer in Arizona and TWO $1.00 bills went through the wash. The only things that came out of the washer alive (somewhat) were the dollar bills. One was missing the bottom banner that stated "One Dollar" and most of George's nose, one eye and his funny haircut. George looked pretty intact on the other bill, however most of the rest was shredded into seven pieces – this called for a very artistic scotch tape job! As I started my "surgery", it made me think of people that have been "put back together", me included, and we're still "spendable". I thought of the Veterans losing arms and legs, but through sheer grit and determination...they're still "spendable". I thought of the children you see on TV ads for the Shriners Hospital, one leg, half of another, no hands, born without legs...they're smiling and are trying hard to enjoy a tough hard life...they're still spendable! I thought of a 95 year old man, Joe Taylor in Burley – that still sells real estate and CAN and has taken apart and rebuilt a tractor! Oh, by the way, I neglected to say Joe is totally blind... "he's still spendable!" I thought about the Downs Syndrome young man named John who, along with his loving, caring dad, started a "sock" company and now they have over 35 employees. John's "Crazy Socks" have been worn by many dignitaries including recently passed George H. W. Bush, our 41st President! This wonderful young man with Downs Syndrome is "still spendable!" Yesterday, I had to go to an orthopedic surgeon to check out my shoulders – both of which are totally gone. Through all the years, of using my arms as my legs, he said they were the worst he's ever seen! (That brightened my day!!) There is nothing they can do...except replacement and I'd be in bed for 6 months!! I told him NO and said I'm going to "go till the motor blows"...I'm still spendable! The gist of this blog is to say that you might be a lil' tattered and worn, and frayed at the edges...but don't YOU dare quit because YOU are "still spendable!!"....
Merry Christmas
