Respect for the aged...nooo, I 'm not talking about people...I'm talking about "things". My ropin' saddle is 51 years old, I love it, it's comfortable (for me), "most" of the leather is still good and it does "draw attention"! And, believe it or not, my favorite boots to rope in are (honestly!) 45 years old and extremely comfortable. Oh sure, there are a few patches here and there and some are on top of a few other patches, the pull straps are busted, the heels lean hard to the east while the rest of the boot is headed west, and yes occasionally, I do have to take em' off and shake out the rocks! I was recently highly offended when I took them in for a small repair job on the toe of one boot (that's how the rocks get in!) and the boot repair gentleman looked first at the boots...then at me...and said "Are you"*!?#*! "kidding me"??! Immediately I was highly insulted and stated that these boots were very valuable to me and "please" fix them! He took the boots as he was shaking his head and said he would do his best to save my "dead" footwear. Home we went, time to do chores, so I changed clothes and donned my favorite hat, a 43 year old black Resistol...ah...well it was black! This hat has been in thunderstorms, been crushed by a trailer load of cows, run over by MY pickup (my head not in it) literally stomped into a manure filled feedlot and stabbed with a knife...(long story). However, it fits great, with a slight tilt to the right to give it some flair and its easily re-shapeable...really easy! So, to sum up, when you pull in my driveway and I'm riding in the arena, you are witness to (including my age) over 215 years worth of Respect for the Aged and I'm lovin' it!
