Isn't it a tad bit ironic that we celebrate "Labor Day" by NOT working?! The first Labor Day parade was in New York City in 1882, and then the State of Oregon was the first State to make it an official public holiday. Labor Day actually came from trade unions (I'm not a fan) and they proposed a day to be recognized celebrating labor. Know what? I honestly feel we have conveniently overlooked "what" labor really is. The dictionary defines labor as "physical and mental exertion, a specific task to be done, work on a task for wages", yada, yada, yada. A good older friend of mine years ago told me to always adhere to the 3 "W's" - "workwageswealth" and you'll never be hungry or in want for your family. I think that philosophy is gone. TOO many people, TOO lazy and its TOO easy to get handouts from a government TOO quick to buy their votes with way TOO much of my money! Every day I read all the press stories and watch the ugly slovenliness of people unable to take care of themselves and assume their responsibility. In every town and city and hamlet there are "Help Wanted" signs for people to go to work and DO something with their lives...but no...in way too many cases...it's easier to just sit and "Tin Cup" it...disgusting! We work, we toil, we sweat, we worry to pay taxes for someone to sit on their fat posterior and smirk at the world that the "system" is theirs for the taking! Baaaaloney!! Today, more than ever before, the chaff has to be separated permanently from the wheat, you don't work – you starve, you freeze, you have a really tough existence...I don't care. There are some folks that need help...some...but not the extreme numbers we see today. "Work, Wages, Wealth" not too hard to remember on this Labor Day weekend...aaah this is comfy here in the shade... "May I have another adult beverage?"
