"Why are you still doing this?", that question was asked of me not too long ago. The question was in regard to my daily activities and my job and really created "food for thought". Everyday I'm "on the air", my lovely bride and I are "up and at 'em" at 4 am with breakfast, a workout program and a "speed walk"....yes, dear reader, even on crutches!! By 5:15 am we're in the office and gathering stories that I will use on my show, making calls to news centers on the east coast and verifying my guests for the day. At 8:06 am, the program starts and for the next three hours I pride myself in putting forth as good a talk show as is on the air. While I'm on the show, Deanne is at work calling advertisers for new copy and taking care of billing and the actual "business" of my company. After my show we grab a "quick lunch" and then its "back to the phones" to return calls or visit with prospective guests and sponsors. By 2 pm we're usually outside taking care of ranch chores and yard chores....which never seems to "go away". At around 5 pm, I'll be saddling a horse to exercise or get ready to practice team roping. "Goober" and I usually just grab a protein bar and go to about 7:30 pm and then feed the animals...and then head for a chair on the back porch. We don't stay there long because we have to be in bed by 9 pm...sleep a little...and then start the whole routine over in 7 hours.... So, back to the question of "why are you still doing this"??? I'm nearly 72 and I think the answer is... "purpose", my "days" keep me going, my days give me a "goal", my days give me a "reason". I am so blessed to have a wife that shares my "purpose", because without her...I don't think I'd have the same drive or desire to keep going. My advice to you is develop a purpose, something you can reach for every day you're "alive". Ok – sure, I cuss the aches and pain, but I love what I do and still can do!! A great basketball coach once said "Don't quit, never give up, never stop trying", he was right...and I won't.
