Over 200 years ago, Black slavetraders brought thousands of Blacks to this continent. It was a big business at that time, albeit a disgusting one, and easy to condemn today. Slavery and owning slaves was an approved practice at that time and eventually, too slowly, the "ownership" of human beings ceased in America...Thank God! Many modes and methods of acceptable living in society have changed or stopped, making America a much better country. However, what happened 200 or 150 years ago should never be used as a financial weapon against you, or me, or our families today. The Democratic party, being led by the nose by Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, has sponsored a bill to study reparations to Black families for "America's history of slavery and racial discrimination"....this should NOT happen! The enormous problem that can and will be connected to any ridiculous reparations payment bill would be catastrophic! The "How" a program like this would work boggles the mind, who qualifies?, how much of a payment...all the same? Who pays? Just Caucasians? What amount – millions...trillions?? Would a program like this end once and for all the animosity of racism from either side?? Many Black leaders say reparations would help diminish the racial disparities in America...would it?..Really? By ME paying you for something I or my ancestors had nothing to do with...does that make everything better and healed? NO. All of us,...white, brown, yellow, black, red, should pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps and NOT be dependent on others with a claim of financial disparity that "supposedly" affected your ancestors hundreds of years ago!! This is frivolously stupid and dangerous. The contempt I have for the Democratic Party and their muckraking of history, sickens me. Condemning this nation's forefathers, tearing down statues of history's great leaders and attempting to erase how America grew and prospered is an act of insanity. ALL of us, every person in America should Thank God we are here, regardless of any past or problems – Stand up on your OWN merit...and not trying to stand taller on my billfold!
