We're putting up the Christmas tree today...for me, 71 observances of the celebration of Christ's birthday. Deanne is an artist at decorating the tree and the inside of our home, and when finished, it resembles the inside of Santa's Northpole abode. All of the beautiful lights and ornaments, both store bought and homemade, the dancing "cowboy" Santa and jolly fat snowmen and...most importantly, many different sized nativity scenes. I remember as a little boy, after the tree was in the stand...(after Dad cooled down!), Mom would always ask me to put together the large nativity. For many years it seemed like a chore, but then I realized it was an honor. I always put the sheep and the shepherds and the background together first, and then, very carefully, the "sky" with the Holy guiding star! Then I would put together the stable with the cows, the donkeys and sheep and then lastly the manager with the Baby Jesus and the loving parents, Joseph and Mary. Now...the final touch, I'd turn off all the lights in the living room and then plug in the star of Bethlehem as it shone radiantly on the Baby Jesus! Now, I'm an old man but just remembering this, makes me a little misty eyed and nostalgic for times gone. If you and your family celebrate the real meaning of Christmas, and you put together a nativity please remember the words from Luke Chapter 2 vs 8, "that night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior – yes, the Messiah, the Lord – has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger"...I never tire of the Christmas story. This year as you put together your nativity, stop...remember what the birth of Jesus means to us all...with faith, everlasting life! Yes, Sir, we're putting up the Christmas tree today...Thank You Jesus!
