"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"!!!...but why right after Labor Day??!! I think it is absolutely repugnant to use Christmas as the marketing "margin" tool for a profit in the last quarter of the year. Now wait a minute reader...I'm not opposed to any legal business making money, nor am I against any business advertising and promoting Christmas sales and toys for the kiddies under the tree...BUT..3 ½ months of stores decorated for Santa, Christmas lights and all the trimmings in September?! Here's the "rub"...with all the festive Christmas material and decorations imploring your "business"...Where's Jesus? It's his birthday and somewhere along the way...we forgot to invite HIM to HIS own party!! Try and find a nice Nativity Scene for your lawn or religious decorations for your home. TRY and find Christians decorations that tell the world that YOU are proud to display the REAL meaning of Christmas! A couple of years ago on my radio program,we had a discussion regarding saying "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas". One lady called in and stated that she "went with the flow" because she didn't want to offend anyone! As Christians in a Christian nation (yes, it still is!) none of us should ever weaken on saying MERRY CHRISTMAS!! So, when someone, anyone says to me "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings", I proudly say back to them in a loud booming voice "Merry Christmas"!!...I'm not joining their "liberal herd". Let me sum up...I love Christmas, the colors, the lights, the food, the smiles, the decorations....BUT...NOT if the real reason for the day is omitted from the occasion...JESUS CHRIST! This year, please, put a little bit more of Jesus in your Christmas, you'll be amazed at how much more enjoyable this season of the year can be AND how the attitude will carry on into the next year! The world can be a better place IF we remember that stable in Bethlehem so long ago and that child...our Savior...laying in a manger...God Bless and...MERRY CHRISTMAS!
My oldest grandson, Dawson, just got his driver's license....I'm really becoming an antique. I remember holding him, all wrapped up in his baby blanket, and trying to get him to go sleep - - then both of us dozed off in the Lazy-boy!! Now, he's the varsity quarterback, the starting point guard and one of the top baseball players in southern Idaho!….time goes by like Secretariat winning a race...a blur...then, its over. But, as an old grandpa, the memories will never fade...Drive carefully, grandson...drive carefully.
