There are some really nice kids...young adults, we all can be proud of. The Marlin Mussmann family has a ranch about three miles from my place. They run about 200 head of mother cows and raise some really well bred horses...and their kids are pretty special, too. Their Mom is a physical therapist, Dad is a school teacher-coach, their two daughters were exceptionally gifted as basketball, volleyball and high school rodeo athletes...that leads us to Garrett. Here is a young man that really has his "ducks in a row". Garrett was one of the finest football wide receivers ever to play at Valley High School. His team won the Idaho State Championship in 2015, I've never seen a "team" more disciplined and "tipped over" with talent. Garrett was also one of the top basketball players when some of the nagging football "aches" didn't keep him off the court. But his passion is the horse world, 24-7, 365, this young man eats, sleeps and talks horses, training, and bloodlines – he knows horses! But what really "hit me between the eyes" was about two weeks ago he asked ME if I wanted to enter some rodeos with him! WHOA! Here's a kid that is an excellent roper, calf roping and team roping, asking if a 70 year old "has been" would hit the rodeo road!! I said "You bet" and now...so that my BB gun brain doesn't over-ride my shotgun mouth – I've been practicing every day! I DO NOT want to miss for this young man...so here we go! There are some really nice kids in this world!
Nothin' like a pair of OLD boots! I've got soooo many boots I could open up a boot store...but there's nothin' like a pair of worn out, patched 17 times, changed colors 6 times, resoled 25 times, good ole' worn out boots! I wear a pair to rope in that were brand new in 1982...1982!...an' there just now getting broke in! Feet are funny. From ingrown toenails to athletes foot, from bunions to fallen arches, there's always something to hurt a foot! But not my ole' boots, they're like slippin' on a bedroom slipper - - if - - you don't tug too hard and go through the bottom! I'm thinking about opening a used, (worn-out) boot store with all sizes of dilapidated, ugly, walked out boots! I'd be my best customer!
The Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame will have their "Induction Weekend" on July 28 and 29 at the Canyon Crest Events Center in Twin Falls. I urge you to come to this event and celebrate the "Legends of Rodeo". Friday night the Kickoff Party to garner funds for cancer research starting at 5PM and then Saturday night the Induction Banquet starting also at 5PM...
